  The project establishes a dialogue between the old home and the new addition; views are carefully framed from one to the other to create linkages between spaces.
  The kitchen becomes the home’s central gathering space; from casual meals at the banquette table, to after-school snacks, or entertaining friends around the island, the kitchen accommodates a variety of ways for family and friends to gather around
  A crisp, clean palette of white and light wood cabinetry is enriched by a handmade backsplash tile with natural variations in the glaze that brings an softness to the space.
  The kitchen is lit by generous floor-to-ceiling windows that afford views out over the lush green yard and onto the Humber ravine. Inside, the island incorporates an ‘urban cultivator’ for growing fresh greens and herbs year-round.
  Framed views and alignments are carefully considered throughout the project to make the addition feel effortlessly integrated within the home.

  A side entrance is tucked behind the kitchen and marked by a step down to a natural slate floor, providing easy access at grade to the garage and rear yard. A bank of closets provide plenty of storage space for jackets, but are pulled down from the
  The rear 2-storey addition is blended seamlessly with the existing home; a red brick was selected to match the existing home, and the existing home itself is upgraded to provide larger, better performing windows that further help blend the old with
  Upstairs, the new master suite becomes a spacious adult retreat overlooking the rear yard. Calming tones of pale green are paired with light woods and soft fabrics to create a serene environment for rest and relaxation.
  The headboard partition wall anchors the bed within the room, and provides a unique boutique hotel-like layout.

  The master ensuite is a efficiently laid out and includes a floating double vanity, and plenty of storage space for toiletries in medicine cabinets recessed into the wall.
  Two bedrooms were re-designed in consultation with the kids - now young adults - to update juvenile kids rooms to finishes and furniture more appropriate to their age and taste.
  Another bedroom features a different palette of lighter cream tones, soft fabrics, and geometric patterns.
